United States Privacy Supplement
Do Not Sell Or Share My Personal Information
1. Disclosure.
If you reside in certain U.S. states with applicable privacy laws (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia), you may have specific privacy rights. Additional disclosures and rights for residents of these states are outlined below.
This document supplements the Blinkist Privacy Policy (the “Privacy Policy”). It provides you with important information about the personal information about you which we collect, how we may use that information, your rights and how to exercise them. In the event of any conflict or inconsistency between this United States Privacy Supplement and the Privacy Policy, this United States Privacy Supplement governs with respect to the personal information of residents with U.S. states with applicable privacy laws. The following does not apply to information about you that is publicly available.
Some information is collected automatically when you interact with our websites. You can find more details under the section “Information Collected or Processed” of the Privacy Policy, as well as under “Visitors of our website” in the Relationship-Specific Details. We will collect and process personal information to operate our business, if it is necessary to provide a service you are requesting. For example, in order to create an account with Blinkist, you will need to provide us with your email address.
We may de-identify certain personal data we collect to protect your privacy while enabling us to conduct research, analytics, and improve our services. De-identified data is information that has been processed to remove or alter identifying elements so that it cannot reasonably be linked back to you as an individual. We commit that we will maintain and use de-identified data without attempting to re-identify the data.
Depending on your cookie preferences, we may “share” categories of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising, as those terms are defined under U.S. privacy law. See Section 6 below for more information about the context in which we share your personal information and how you can request to opt-out.
We do not “sell” personal information as defined under applicable U.S. privacy laws.
We do not process your personal information for purposes of profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects concerning you.
2. Children.
Our services are not intended for children under 18. We only handle children's information with parental or legal guardian approval, or when parents/guardians provide it directly. If we inadvertently collect personal information from someone under 18 without required consent, we will promptly delete it.
3. Access to Specific Information Rights.
You may have the right to request that we disclose certain information to you about how we collected and used your personal information, as well as about third parties with whom we shared your personal information.
4. Deletion Right.
You may have the right to request that we delete the personal information that we have collected about you, subject to certain exceptions as set forth in applicable law(s), for example tax and commercial law.
5. Right to Data Portability.
You may have the right to receive a copy of certain personal information in a portable, structured, and machine-readable format. You may also request that we transmit this data directly to another service provider where technically feasible.
6. Correction Right & Right to Limit.
You may request correction of inaccurate personal information we store about you, subject to applicable law exceptions. We do not process “sensitive personal information” under California law, and therefore, we do not offer the right to limit the use or disclosure of sensitive personal information under California law.
7. Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.
We provide clear methods to opt out of sharing your personal information for targeted advertising through the "Cookie Consent" tab in our website footer. We and partner companies may use tracking technologies to collect and share information about your website behavior to improve advertising accuracy and relevance, but only consistent with the preferences you provide to our cookie consent banner or manager.
8. Exercising Your Rights.
You can exercise any of your rights as described in the Privacy Policy or in this document to the extent permitted by applicable law(s) by reaching out to privacy@blinkist.com. Please provide enough information and describe your request with sufficient detail to enable us to properly respond to your request. We may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before we respond to your request in accordance with applicable law.
Under applicable law, you may have the option to designate an authorized agent to file a request on your behalf. If you use an authorized agent to submit a request, we may require the authorized agent to provide proof that you gave the agent signed permission to submit the request. We may also require you to directly confirm with us that you provided the authorized agent permission to submit the request. If you are an authorized agent submitting a request on behalf of a consumer, please reach out to privacy@blinkist.com.
You may also make a verifiable consumer request on behalf of your minor child.
9. No Discrimination.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your privacy rights.
